Is the free tier really free forever?+
Yes. No credit card, no trial period. 1,000 API calls every month on the unified Data plan, plus a free tier on Signal and Ask. Discovery, metadata, raw-file proxy, and all 391K pre-parsed datasets are on free. Live scraping and Claude-backed parsing need a paid Data plan.
What counts as an 'API call' vs a 'page'?+
API calls cover everything we've already indexed — search, metadata, raw file retrieval, pre-parsed dataset rows, agent actions. Pages are the metered unit for live work: 1 page per Crawlee scrape, N pages for a Claude-parsed PDF (roughly 1 per page of the document). API calls come out of your monthly plan; pages draw down your included allowance and then bill as metered overage.
What happens when I hit my limit?+
API-call limit: Free tier hard-caps at 1,000/mo (HTTP 402 with upgrade card). Pro/Business are soft-capped — overage at $1/1K requests. Page limit: Free tier gets 402 on any page-consuming endpoint; Pro/Business overage is billed per-page ($0.025 on Pro, $0.020 on Business) as Stripe metered usage at month-end.
Can I switch plans later?+
Yes, instantly. Upgrade is prorated — pay the difference now, keep your billing date. Downgrade takes effect at the end of the period. Cancel anytime.
Do Data, Signal, Ask, and Brief share a key?+
Yes. One X-API-Key works against every Katzilla product. They bill separately — you can be on Data Pro + Signal Free + Ask Free, or whatever combination fits.
