Clinical Trials Watch — 2026-07-10

TITLE: Clinical Trials Watch — Week of July 10, 2026: Novartis Still's Disease Phase II, BeOne FIH Oncology, and a Ventilation Trial Withdrawal

---

This Week's Signal

A quiet week for late-stage catalysts — no Phase III readouts crossed the wire — but activity clustered around early oncology and inflammatory disease starts, alongside a notable Phase II/III breast cancer completion from NRG Oncology. One trial withdrawal and a long-running NHLBI natural history study round out the ledger.

Phase III / Late-Stage

  • NRG Oncology's NCT02364557, a Phase II/III study testing whether local ablation (surgery or high-dose radiation) of metastases improves survival in stage IV breast cancer (n=129), has moved to COMPLETED status; the Phase II primary endpoint is PFS, and full readout will inform whether metastasis-directed therapy earns a durable role in oligometastatic disease.

Phase II

  • Novartis opened enrollment in NCT07203001, a Phase II evaluating IL-1β/IL-18 bispecific MAS825 in pediatric and adult Still's disease (n=30), with clinical response as the primary endpoint — a meaningful test of dual cytokine blockade in a population where anakinra and canakinumab set the current bar.

Phase I

  • BeOne Medicines (the rebranded BeiGene) launched NCT07414836, a first-in-human Phase 1a/1b of BG-C0979 in advanced solid tumors (n=84), with safety/AE profile as the Phase 1a primary — an early datapoint to watch as BeOne builds out its solid-tumor pipeline beyond tislelizumab.

Phase N/A (Behavioral, Device & Nutraceutical)

Several non-drug interventional studies are notable more for design than for market impact:

  • Washington University's NCT07091500 (n=40, recruiting) pairs GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy with structured exercise training in obesity, using physical function as the primary — a design directly aimed at the growing concern that GLP-1–induced weight loss erodes lean mass and functional capacity.
  • The Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition's NCT07572266 (n=226, not yet recruiting) will test adjuvant dietary nitrate as a booster for exercise-induced health gains in older adults, a well-powered look at a cheap, widely available supplement.
  • Universidad de la Sabana's NCT07695194 (n=80, completed) reports on the "Conectando Corazones" psychosocial intervention for family caregivers of older adults with dementia, measuring caregiver role competence.
  • Isabel de Almeida Paz's NCT07695402 (n=40, completed) evaluated combined therapy plus the Jones strain-counterstrain technique for upper trapezius myofascial trigger points, with pressure pain threshold as the endpoint.
  • Auburn University's NCT07696611 (n=54) will pilot child-interaction skills training for undergraduates — small, education-focused, unlikely to move clinical practice.

Terminations & Withdrawals

  • 🚩 NCT02070445 (McMaster University), which was evaluating ventilation strategies during cardiopulmonary bypass to reduce postoperative atelectasis, has been formally WITHDRAWN. Stated reason: departure of a lead investigator — an administrative rather than safety-driven stop, but the atelectasis question remains open.

Long-Running Natural History

  • NHLBI's NCT00923507, the natural history registry of MBL, CLL/SLL, LPL/Waldenström, and splenic marginal zone lymphoma (n=1000, recruiting since 2008), continues to accrue — a foundational cohort that increasingly underpins genomic and progression-risk stratification work in indolent B-cell disorders.

Bottom Line

No Phase III catalyst this week. Watch the Novartis MAS825 Still's Phase II and the BeOne BG-C0979 FIH for read-through to their respective platforms; the NRG oligometastatic breast cancer completion is the near-term dataset most likely to change guidelines when published.
